My first guides to the regional gastronomy scene are the people I live with (thank you for your guidance and patience). I want to share the excitement of the food culture during first days, it probably will become something I get used to in a short while. Going for pintxo-potes is a matter of socializing in a small bar starting from discussing what to have, finding a chance to shout what you want, to sipping sagardoa while chatting around bar stand.
I have tired pinxtos in Hondarribia old town where I live and in Donostia/San Sebastia which is bus ride away. Hondarribia is a beautiful fishing town in Gipuzkoa with almost non-existing distance away from a French town Hendaye. Two countries are separated by Bidasoa river which shores in the bay are homes to hundreds of sailing and fishing boats, and all this can be viewed just following the promenade full of people of all ages (at least on sunny Sunday evening): fathers with children, families with dogs, skateboarding teenagers, groups of friends and grandparents, most of the people look local.
As obvious as close connection to the sea brings seafood to the eating culture, a long distant visitor wants to try what is special in the region (however might not be special to locals but be valued).
